Axel works on a range of projects, both in terms of scope and style, but our priorities are constant: create a functional floorplan, select comfortable and well-made furnishings, and carefully edit art and accessories.
We engage our clients as partners at every step of the process, with open and ongoing communication from beginning to end. We never lose sight of our clients’ aesthetic preferences, their intended use of space and stated budget.
While Axel offers comprehensive design direction and project coordination, our services are also available on an à la carte basis:
Andrea Cross, principal, is a 25-year industry veteran who brings an extensive knowledge of fine art, antiques and design history to her work. Earning an Art History degree from Dartmouth College, and following internships at Winterthur and the Whitney Museum, Andrea spent nearly a decade in Christie’s Estates and Appraisals Department. She also served as an independent advisor, most notably to Sotheby’s auction of the Collection of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Transitioning to the design field, Andrea received certifications from the New York School of Interior Design and New York University’s program in Appraisal Studies. She worked on both the vendor side (at Grey Watkins, now a division of Stark) and as a designer, with Cynthia Jones and Fisher Interiors, before establishing her own firm.
Debby’s design sensibility was shaped by a childhood surrounded by art and artists, tagging along with her artist-dad to galleries and museums, and enthralled by the architecture in Boston. Fascinated with interiors at an early age, she studied Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received a MA in Art History with distinction from The American University before completing a residential certificate in Interior Design at Fairfield University. She brings to every project a thorough understanding of color, scale and proportion as well as a keen eye for space planning. Selecting interesting furnishings and works of art, Debby weaves in creative details to make each home unique, functional and personal. Debby works with Axel Interiors on a project basis as well as maintaining her own design practice, Debby Katz Interiors.
