Extraordinary Objects for Everyday Living

Our showroom is now open by appointment only. Most days you will find us there, working on projects for our design clients.  But before you make a trip in, we suggest you call 203 299-3155 or e-mail andrea@axelinteriors.com to confirm our availability.

As designers, we saw a growing need for furnishings that could pair well with antiques and mid-century pieces. Our clients were looking to update, and most were living more informally, but any additional elements needed to relate to and be as fine as their existing pieces.  At the same time, we were seeing amazing work coming out of Brooklyn makers’ studios – elegant, well-designed pieces that were just the sort of modern heirlooms that could easily find place in our projects.

Axel’s showroom opened in 2014 and provides a curated tour of some of the finest workshops from Brooklyn, New England and beyond, presented alongside vintage finds. The retail shop is frequented by designers and architects, as well as design-minded consumers looking for pieces of enduring quality from our stellar roster of modern makers, including:

Wüd Furniture

Viscosity Studio

Studio Dunn

Reed Hansuld Furniture

In addition to independent artisans, Axel also represents manufacturers that likewise maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship, and produce their pieces by hand with small teams of artisans:

Interior Crafts

is a family-owned, Chicago-based furniture designer and manufacturer known for producing pieces of impeccable quality - built to last for generations. Recognized for the iconic silhouettes of their seating, these classic pieces are simultaneously timeless and fresh.

Lasvit

brings together artists and designers from across the globe to produce their brilliant lighting in the Czech Republic. Their “Neverending Glory” pendants are inspired by the monumental chandeliers of the world’s great opera houses. This new take on a traditional model can transform a space, and comes in 3 sizes (diameters range from 9” – 21”).

Thayer Design Studio

In this bedroom, antique furniture is paired with a Thayer Design Studio rug, custom bedding in Schumacher fabric, blankets from the mills of Melin Tregwynt and contemporary lighting by Viabizzuno and Hwang Bishop.

“Great space to find beautiful pieces from some of the finest designers / makers / artists throughout the North East. Knowledgeable staff can help you make decisions from take-with-you items to custom commissioned works made in the USA.”
